Policies and Procedures
Admissions Policy
Children can start coming to playgroup at the age of 2 1/2, if there are places available. Our policy for admissions is done on a date of birth basis, i.e oldest birth date first. Please be aware that if a 3 or 4 year old requires a place at playgroup they will take priority over any younger children on the waiting list.
Settling In Policy
If your child is unsettled and upset when first starting playgroup, the playgroup manager will liase and advise parents as to the best course of action to take. This will usually be for the parent to stay for a few sessions, gradually reducing the time scale until the child is comfortable to be left. Most children settle quickly and the staff are experienced in dealing with this situation and they will always be happy to advise as to the best solution for you and your child as each individual child is different.
Collection Policy
The playgroup session finishes at 12:15pm and we operate a handing over system. Children will only be allowed to leave the premises with an adult who is known to the Manager or other members of staff. If there is a change in who is collecting your child you are required to notify the playgroup as soon as possible or by documenting it in the collection book. Unless we have the correct authorisation from you as parents we will not let your child leave with someone who is not recognised by us or who does not have your permission to take your child home. The safety of your child is paramount and we need to ensure that all the children leave safely and with a recognised adult.
Curriculum
Each child is encouraged to develop their physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social skills on an individual basis and to the best of their ability, with the view to preparing them for primary education. We introduce the children to different cultures, habits and religious celebrations and festivals, following curriculum guidance for the foundation stage and areas of learning.
Special Needs Policy
Children with special needs are welcome at playgroup, (in discussion with the playgroup manager, parents and therapists if appropriate). Evaluation as to the suitability of the facilities and resources available will also be considered. Children are treated as an individual, integrating them appropriately with considerations to their needs and requirements.
Language
All children are accepted into the setting regardless of their first language. Help and encouragment will be given to them to develop their English language skills.
Food
All children are provided with a mid morning snack, this usually consists of either a drink of milk or water with a piece of fruit or vegetable and a biscuit. Please let us know if your child has any special dietary requirements and these will be taken into account and respected.
Clothing
The children paint and glue everyday. Aprons are provided be we do suggest that old clothes are best to be worn. We also have T-Shirts and Sweatshirts for sale with the playgroup logo.
